Dr Attaur Rehman |
Former chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Attaur Rehman looked unsatisfied with the much-talked water-kit capable of powering a car.
He rejected the viability of the water-kit based on the scientific law of conservation.
While speaking to the media he observed, “The car has not been subjected to scientific examination and yet the issue has been blown out of proportion by irresponsible media coverage and praises showered by ministers”.
In his view, the self-claimed inventor would have filed an international patent to protect his invention and only then he would come out with the claim if he had been genuine. The scientist believes that there was an immense scam behind the claim to grab money from the government and corporate sectors.
It is vital to mention here that Engineer Agha Waqar Ahmed has become a household name after he appeared on several primetime talk shows to showcase his formula, which he claims can power vehicles.
However, the scientists including Dr Attaur Rehman and Professor Dr Pervez Hoodbhoy rejected the claims of Waqar Ahmed, saying it was against the basic laws of physics.
While rubbishing the claim of self-claimed inventor, the former HEC chairman said that these statements could only be made in Pakistan. He said that scientific researches in other countries were taken seriously and no one would pretend to mock the scientific theories in this way.
He was of the opinion that Agha Waqar didn’t have basic knowledge of physics. He noted, “This is the first mistake he is making and he does not even know that you can’t even get electrolysis on distilled water. For this purpose you have to have an electrolyte which can be decomposed by electrolysis.”
Explaining that a power energy source, which could only be a battery in this case, is needed to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen and then recombine them through combustion to release energy.
He added, “But firstly, the energy which is required to separate hydrogen and oxygen will always be greater in amount than the energy released and secondly, the external energy source will eventually die out to fail the process since the efficiency of electrolysis in hardly 20 to 30%.”
In his view, if this was not the case the inventor has invented a perpetual motion machine which according to a scientific consensus is impossible.
